About the Team

The Berkshire Mountain Search and Rescue Team, Inc. was created in 1977 by a group of dedicated people to fill a major need in Berkshire County and the State of Massachusetts. At that time, there was no organization capable of modern search technique or management in the county.

The Team has grown considerably since that time in both membership and stature. The Team now has more than 70 members from all walks of life, colors, sex and creeds. There are 14 members fully accredited as Search Managers (NASAR-MSF/MLPI). The Team has participated in more than 100 searches with a 93% success record of finding the lost person.

BMSAR is primarily a "ground pounding" team. It has an experienced cadre of field team leaders, man trackers, search dog handlers, trained searchers and more. The Team equipment cache includes communication and rescue equipment, and a mobile command center.

BMSAR is a "winter capable" SAR team able to respond regardless of weather conditions, day or night.
